Reach for the Golden Ring
And in the end
On our wings we will begin
For that's what love is made of.
Dreams - these amorphous things which haunt nights, drift through days, make a generalized hasg of practical, everyday living. Such clogious things, in truth, dreams, with their hinted-at meanings, their flickerings of thought, their unachievable natures
.
In truth, though it is often hard to remember, we live for dreams. These are the things that we use to bolster the strains of everyday living, even if it is only a dream of a good dinner and a pleasant night's sleep.
So, perhaps, I will start to compile a list of dreams, things to wish for in my own life and in the world as a whole. Some small wishes, others large, but all of them dreams worth dreaming and hopes worth having.
- Dreams for Myself
- May the things I write and the thoughts that I place in what is written be seen as worth sharing with the world. Or, in simpler words, Lady find me a publisher.
- May the dark ghosts of my mind go to their rest, may the jagged scars of the past heal to faint lines of memory, and may I sleep through the night.
- May I regain the ability to have solitude without being so desperately alone.
- May my Muse frequently alight on my hands and my mind, and not spend so much time lurking atop the refrigerator laughing at me because I have not the words.
- May I have the gift of loving many without the chain of jealousy or the rage of the other, who will not understand. Further, may there be many who understand the gift of love without chain.
- Dreams for my Family and Loved Ones
- May anger pass, time soothe, and healing be less needed than it might seem just now.
- May everyone who truly needs it grow up enough to realize when childishness is unnecessary, without losing the ability to be as a child in looking at the world.
- May those who truly love find a place where they may be, together and forever, and may they not rip it to small pieces within the first month of sorting out where the boundaries of personal space lie.
- May those that hurt be healed of pain, and let there be no problems that I cannot do something about.
- Dreams for the World
- May the different no longer be feared, but rather understood, accepted, and, to the extent that it is deserved, revered as a place of understanding beyong that which is commonly held.
- May the public schools learn to deal with the emotionally disturbed, the highly intelligent, the learning disabled, and the socially outcast (all of which are, to some extent, overlapping).
- May "boys will be boys" be removed from the possibility of speech on any subject involving sexual harassment or rape.
- May there be an understanding of the important of science and the importance of art. Further, may there be an understanding of the science of the aesthetic and the beauty of understanding.
- May someone, someday, learn that shooting all of one's enemies is not the same as winning.
- Dreams for the Future
- May the law come to respect and allow the formation of legal bonds without the influence of long-ago church and long-ago morality. In other words, may gay marriage and polamorous relationships be allowed codification in the eyes of the state, for tho
se who would choose such things.
- May my children have the Dragon's Eyes, and never lose their flight.
- Pipe Dreams
- May I learn to speak Gaelic to enough fluency that I can begin to think in the language.
- May I finally shape the music that I cannot quite hear in the edges of my mind.
- May the power of heart and mind conjoined be understood and respected.
- May politics start to make sense.
- May the Sox sweep the Series.
