Mikel and Jaci stand awaiting the formal presentation of sentence from the surviving elder members of the decimated House Diablo - Mikel for merely being related to the Elder who orchestrated the deaths of most of Diablo's council, and Jaci for insubordination and reponsibility for the death of Diablo's Househead. Both of them are exhausted, but they are still willing to fight if need be, each unwilling to accept a judgement against the other. Mikel has shielded them both with a weak deflector, in case someone should try to attack them; while they believe the fighting is over, they trust nobody but each other.
