Fill a kettle with water and set to boil.
Take the stale bread that you forgot was sitting out on the shelf. Cut into small cubes. Use a hacksaw if necessary. Place in a dish with at least a little lip: whatever isn't still waiting to be washed -- if there aren't any bowls, casserole dishes, or tupperware containers still clean, a pie plate will do at a pinch.
Take the stale cheese that was hidden at the back of the crisper drawer in the fridge -- the one that's sort of dry and cracked at the edges because the wrapper was loose, but not the one that has more than three different colors of mold on it -- and grate a cup or so. A hacksaw should not be necessary. Sprinkle this evenly over the bread cubes.
Find that small pile of bouillon packets from the packaged rahmen soups that you didn't use because you crumbled up the noodles as croutons on a salad instead. Sprinkle one packet over the bread and cheese.
If there's any butter in the fridge, dot the top of the whole thing with a couple tablespoonfuls.
By now, the kettle will have been whistling furiously for a step or two. Turn it off and slowly pour boiling water over the bread-and-cheese until everything is well moistened but not too soggy. Let sit while you put everything else away. If there's still some plain yoghurt in the fridge, place several dollops on top of everything else and stir slightly but not thoroughly.
Call it "Bread Pudding Surprise" and pretend you did it on purpose.
