This image appeared in my Elfwood gallery under the title, "Sure, the boy can run...." I'm well aware that I'm not very good at drawing human beings; I do have a moderate talent for caricature of people as things they aren't. The drawing came into being because of a discussion on the Bosox mailing list about the Red Sox's need for a slugger for the 2000 season to fill out the end of the lineup; the first drawing was of a cartoonish slug with a bat over its ... shoulder? But it occurred to me that even if he could hit, he couldn't run.
When I did the drawing originally, I didn't have any clear idea of 'who' it might be; I just felt like drawing a cheetah in a Sox jersey. Since then, though, I've got my own personal theory about which player seems most like this guy to me. If anyone wants to mail me their own opinions on the matter, I'll start posting the results of the informal poll down at the bottom of the page.
