So he happens to be a grey lynx, instead. He is, however, the gatekeeper to this place, the Silver Lion's den; it is his eyes who keep track of such things, when she is away. Treat him kindly, if you would.

As is fitting, the entry to this cave shall be devoted to a slight hint of a map of the depths of its interior, some merest sketches, some more detailed. Such is the way of these things, is it not? So.

• Sun, Moon and Stars: The lion is a creature of the natural world, and, as such, has his links to those things. Hence, this astronomical reference.
  • Sun: The King of Beasts is a Beast of Principles, Duties, and Honor. These things are the light of day, are clear, are bold, are glorious, and, when pressed too closely, shall burn.
  • Moon: The Lion, as a Cat, is subject to the forces of mystery. Philosophy, religion, power, these are all great mysteries, which are often spoken of and not so often understood.
  • Stars: Where is guidance, if not in the pinpoints of the heavens? Are stars dreams, compass pinpricks, and the like? Here, perhaps, are to be seen a guidance point of dreams to scatter the heart among.
• The Pride: Such a multicolored word, one of so very many meanings, is 'pride'. To a lion, however, pride is the family, the network of power and prowess that is not only pride, in the more colloquial sense, but home. It is in all these meanings and many more that I make this section.
• The Hunt: It is the she-lion who hunts, did you know that? The sole contribution of the male is to make noise and startle the prey; it is the womenfolk who do the work. In this section, inequities are hunted down, some with seriousness, some with flippancy. Conflict is the meat of the meal of living, and intellectual conflict may not feed the belly, but it feeds something.
• Siesta: After one has hunted well, and fed well, there is left time to sleep and to play. Lions remember this, while few humans do.
